Dining without the noise and fumes: Delicious cheap food in a quiet setting

We were recommended this warung north of our accommodations on Jl. Sriwedari and it is one we kept returning to on our two week stay in Ubud. It is located in a quiet (for now) section of north Ubud, away from all the noise and pollution of motor scooters that disrupt the dining experience downtown. The portions were good, value was great (half the price of the warungs on the main drag), food was tasty, ambiance incredible, and service friendly and capable. If you are looking for a “happening” place, you will be disappointed. We were the only diners in the entire place all 4-5 times we ate there. All the better for us. A family of four eating out every day can get expensive even with local dishes (forget about the international menus!), but of the two other warung we found that roughly matched Jepun Warung on price, none tasted better and none came close to the cleanliness, food presentation, or relaxed ambiance opposite the rice fields. The smoothies and juices were delicious - not watered down like some places. The service was slow, but no slower than any other warung we experienced in Indonesia – they apparently haven’t yet discovered the “advanced” food preparation methods of North America where your retail restaurant buys food in a bag from a food supplier to heat up so the customer can be fed 5 minutes after being seated. Slow food, local food – that’s how it’s done in Indonesia. Good for them.

Good food but very bad service

We went to Jepun in the first week of February. There was no clients there because its low season in Ubud. We order the food, and then the drinks. There was no beer, there was no Coke, only water, and only one of the several tapes of juices available. It took a long time until they bring us the food ( 1 hour), i can't imagine if the there was more clients there. In the end there was no desert. Only a delicious Bali coffee. To forget
