Entrance of hotel and lobby was pretty cool, gave off a bit of those Kingsmen vibe. Welcome tea was delicious too! The Nanyang Ritual tea and Ritual tea (both specially blend for the hotel) were both fragrant and light, can buy them back if you like. For the room, I like the sitting area. Can simply just chill, drink tea and view the city. Loved the bidet toilet bowl and the seat was always warmed up. I like that there's a filter drinking water tap too. Pool and Gym looked inviting and oversee the city, but my husband and I only went to the pool. Water was very cold despite the sun shining in, would be great if the pool is heated. Breakfast was limited, only 5 or 6 items on the menu but very filling and nice. We had the Qin breakfast and the daily special (I believe was rosemary roasted pork taco, pretty cool breakfast). Every set of breakfast was accompanied with kaya toast and fruit bowl. Overall, stay was decently pleasant.

It was my first time and I was in awe with the design of the hotel. The interior was breathtaking. Booked the luxury room and the hotel upgraded us to the 20th floor. The view of the city was amazing. We got twin single, bed was comfy. The pillows deflate as soon as we lay our heads on it. Would be nice if they were puffy instead. Room service was fantastic. Price was reasonable though, as the portion was good. The pool only operates till 8.30pm. The bookings were tight. We were lucky we got the earliest slot for 7am and had the pool to ourselves on the first day. At least for a good 1 hour. Had an award winning breakfast afterwards. I'm a Muslim and understood the menu was not halal but they managed to tweak the ingredients which I am thankful and grateful for. If they have the kitchen halal certified, they would win more tummies I bet. Hope they will reconsider someday. The receptionists were great and they were always contactable. Whatever that we request for, were sent immediately within 10 mins. We even needed help with the TV and they sent their engineers up. What a service! Would definitely recommend and will come back to visit soon. Thank you! X

I had an awesome stay! Hostel staff were so accommodating, friendly and quick with my requests. The hostel is clean, with good water supply and great air conditioning. The hostel serves light breakfast such as noodles, bread, cereal and fruits which actually can help you get through the day 😁 coffee, tea and milk are also available! It's close to 7/11 (just beside it), bars, cafes, restaurants and cheap but great food centres. And yes, it's close to mrt station as well! Convenience is the name of the game! I'd stay again in my future visits! Thank you!

Other than the fact that the lift structure is not conventional, really nothing to nitpick. Great location, great food at L1, great stay.

Location was very convenient to the banking area and public transport to many places. Many food choices were close by too. Wifi worked well. There are chairs to sit in the airconditioned lobby. Cons are that the place needs some upgrading. The outside terrace has 3 large inverters blowing hot air constantly. Many stairs and no lift. Host Hafiz made a world of diffrence in welcoming all registered guests and did his best at work.

Staff were confused and seemed to act against one another. On check out, no one mentioned physical check out was unnecessary since the room was prepaid with a voucher. Rooms were too small making occupants trip over bags and squeeze around the bed to reach the toilet.

About

Best Hotels in Tanjong Pagar

Looking for the best hotels in Tanjong Pagar for your holiday references? Don’t worry, we already have it covered for you! For those of you that first learned about Tanjong Pagar, let’s learn a little bit about it more.

Tanjong Pagar in Malay means "cape of stakes’", a name which reflects its origins as a fishing village situated on a former promontory. It has been surmised that the name was inspired by the presence of kelongs (offshore palisade fishing traps constructed using wooden stakes and cross pieces) set up along the stretch of coast from the village of Tanjong Malang to what is now Tanjong Pagar. It is possibly a corruption of the earlier name Tanjong Passar, a road which led from South Bridge Road to the fishing village and which appeared in George Drumgoole Coleman's 1836 Map of the Town.

A far more picturesque account of the naming of this part of the coast emerges from the realm of local legend. According to the Malay Annals, there was a time when the villages along the coast of Singapore suffered from vicious attacks from shoals of swordfish. On the advice of a particularly astute boy named Hang Nadim, the Sri Maharajah built a barricade of banana stems along the coast, which successfully trapped the attacking fish by their snouts as they leapt from the waters.

The original name for Tanjong Pagar is also said to be Salinter, a fishing village. When the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company (1864) was formed due to the growth of shipping activities in the 1850s, wharves were built. Tanjong is "cape", and Pagar means "fence" or enclosed space, i.e. wharf where ships are moored. Tanjong Pagar probably refers to the location of PSA Gate 3 near Victoria Dock. Around Tanjong Pagar were mangrove swamps which were filled in with earth from Mount Palmer and other nearby small hills for extension of the wharves up to Telok Blangah. Tanjong Pagar Road is known as tan jiong pa kat in Hokkien (Min Nan), which is phonetic.

For many years, Tanjong Pagar, located between the docks and the town, was an enclave for the thousands of Chinese and Indian dock workers who had migrated to Singapore from the mid-19th century. With all the traffic between the docks and the town, Tanjong Pagar was also lucrative ground for rickshaw pullers awaiting clients. So prevalent was their presence that in 1904, the government established a Jinricksha Station at the junction of Tanjong Pagar Road and Neil Road. From the time the docks began operations in 1864, land values in Tanjong Pagar rose, attracting wealthy Chinese and Arab traders to buy real estate there.

The proliferation of impoverished workers led to overcrowding, pollution and social problems such as opium smoking and prostitution. Tanjong Pagar generally deteriorated into an inner-city ghetto. By World War II, Tanjong Pagar was a predominantly working-class Hokkien area with an Indian minority. In the mid-1980s, Tanjong Pagar became the first area in Singapore to be gazetted under the government's conservation plan. When the conservation project was completed, many of the area's shophouses were restored to their original appearance. But although a few traces of the old Tanjong Pagar remain as an old swimming pool, the odd street cobbler and the face of Tanjong Pagar has changed. Today, Tanjong Pagar has become a fashionable district, filled with thriving businesses, cafés, bars and restaurants.

No wonder, people prefer to look for the best hotels in Tanjong Pagar to spend their staycation in Singapore.
