About

A peaceful town located in Cebu’s northeastern coast, Bogo City allows you to experience a different side of Cebu. Its cozy vibe and untouched beaches will allow you to relax and unwind away from the constant noise of the city. Around three hours away from Cebu City, Bogo offers the curious traveller access to beautiful beaches, some of the best diving spots, and unique historical sites.

If you’re more into scuba diving and snorkeling than surfing, the coastal town of Bogo City should definitely be on your list. This small city prides itself not only for its vast reefs and stunning beaches but also its friendly locals and warm climate. Going around the city center, you might find yourself stumbling upon historical shrines, local museums, and even a local library. Bogo City’s public market is also the go-to place for fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish. Aside from being more known for its beaches, Bogo City is also quite known in the region for its sugar cane plantations, coconut tree farms, and mango farms.

How to Go

By plane

The easiest way to get to Bogo City would be to fly from Manila to Cebu via airlines like Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, or Cebu Pacific. Once you’re at Mactan International Airport, you can opt to get a three-hour bus or taxi ride to Bogo City.

By boat/ferry

If you’re coming from Manila, ride a RoRo bus and ferry going to Polambato Port. The bus usually passes through either Masbate or sometimes, Leyte. Once you’re at Polambato port, you know you’ve arrived at Bogo City. You can also ride a boat like 2go or Negros Navigation to get to Cebu City and then ride a bus going from there to Bogo City.

By land transportation

Because the Philippines is an archipelago, you can’t reach your destination purely by land if you’re coming from Luzon, Mindanao, and other parts of Visayas. The roll on roll off bus gets you to your destination through its various ferry routes.

Getting Around

The best way to get around the area and experience the city is either through tricycles or habal-habal. You can even choose to hire them for the day if you want to explore most of the sites in the city.

Tourist Attractions

You can see traces of Spanish influence in the city Plaza, where one can access the library and museum. Also, a unique attraction that you should try to check out while you’re in the area is the diesel train engine that carries sugarcane to the nearby sugar mill. Another historic landmark in the city is Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College, a five story structure which is known for being the largest building in town.

A trip to Bogo City will not be complete without a trip to at least one of its beaches. Some resorts that you should try to check out include Nailon Beach Resort, Hisoler’s Beach Resort, Sea Turtle Lagoon Resort, and Odlot Hide-away Beach Resort.

Top Things to Do

If you haven’t tried scuba diving yet, this may be your chance to cross it off your bucket list. Head to Capitancillo Islet and explore colorful soft corals, black corals, gorgonian sea fans, and even caves. Aside from scuba diving, you can also snorkel in the more shallow waters of Capitancillo Islet. If you’re looking for something more chill and maybe a place to get your tan, head to any of the beaches along the city’s coast and enjoy the vitamin d.

After grabbing a bite to eat, you can also go for a stroll along Bogo City’s wharf and watch as the ferries and boats sail by. A climb up to the Shrine of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal is always a good activity to try, especially for Catholics.

One thing you shouldn’t forget when you’re in the city is to try the fresh produce at the coconut and mango farms surrounding the city. While you’re at it, maybe you can even bring some home as pasalubong.

  • Bring comfortable clothing suited for Bogo City’s all around warm weather.
