Sik is a district located in Kedah. It covers an area of 1,634.6 km2. Sik has a population of 63,865 and the majority ethnic group is Malay. It may not have any tall buildings and what more skyscrapers to make itself known to others. But, it is a clean and beautiful district that famous for it has the longest river runs in Kedah known as Muda River. It also has Beris Dam, a water supply dam that was completed in 2004 at a cost of RM360 million. In addition, it also has Beris Vineyard that has become an attraction for tourists since it started operating years ago. Since then, Sik has started to be a famous district in Kedah.

Since the majority ethnic group inhabited in Sik is Malay, the local language spoken is Malay language.

How to Get There

By Plane

From KLIA2 or Subang Airport, take a flight to Alor Setar, Kedah. From the airport, tourists can ride a cab to Sik.

By Bus

From Kuala Lumpur, either TBS (Integrated Bus Terminal) or Hentian Duta, take a bus straight to Sik.

Mount Jerai

Mount Jerai is the highest peak in Kedah, with the height of 1,175 m that is equivalent to 3,854 feet from sea level. The mountain is between Kuala Muda district and Yan district. At the top of the mountain, there are beautiful gardens, resort and restaurants. Tourists will also get to read the history of Mount Jerai from the information board up there. The height of Mount Jerai allowed Indian traders and seafarers to use the mountain as a navigational point more than 1500 years ago. The mountain was considered sacred by the ancient Malays so they built temples from the foothills up to the summit, known as Bujang Valley. It is not only a temple, yet it is the richest archaeological site in Malaysia.

Kedah has plenty of famous food and there are; laksa Kedah, fermented fish, Nasi Kandar Royal and a lot more. The people there may speak Malay language, yet they have their distinct dialect. For foreign tourists who cannot speak Malay, it is okay for the locals there are very helpful to help.
