It is more famous as Tugu Station for the locals. The building still retains the original concept of a classic European architecture since its construction in 1887. The design is unique because it is placed between the railways and facing Yogyakarta main road. Yogyakarta station is located on Pasar Kembang Street, Sosromenduran, Gedong Tengen, Special Region of Yogyakarta, 55271. On the east, there is a sliding gate to allow passerby heading to Malioboro. At the end of the gate, there is a Steam Locomotive Monument which becomes a favorite photo-spot for travelers.
Gambir station is located at the heart of the city, on Medan Merdeka Timur Street No. 1, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Special Capital Region of Jakarta, 10110. Across the building, there is Lapangan Medan Merdeka, near the street connecting Gambir with Monas. From this point, many tourist spots such as Monas, National Gallery of Indonesia, Pasar Baru, dan Juanda Street, are within walking distance. For sight-seeing around the city, you can also take a ride on TransJakarta. The bus-stop is right in front of the station. Although it has been 130 years old since its construction, the station by no means looks old. On the contrary, it is considered one of the most modern in Indonesia. On this three-story building, you will find an advanced and digitalized system similar to the airport. Restaurants, VIP waiting room, and free-wifi access are available for the comfort of passengers.
