1. Maha Vihara Mojopahit

When visiting Mojokerto, be sure to visit Maha Vihara Majapahit. This temple is located in Belijong village, Trowulan, and only about 300 meters from the highway. You can drive about 14km from the city center to Jl. Raya Trowulan, turn left on Jl. Candi Baru, then turn right to reach the location.

Established in 1989, this temple was built with the main design of Javanese joglo-shaped architecture. However, in the front area, you'll see a slick blend of Javanese, Indian, and Chinese cultures.

The appeal of this temple lies in the sleeping Buddha statue that’s 22 meters length, 6 meters wide and 4.5 meters high. The statue is located on the left rear of the main building of this temple, and considered as the third largest in the world, after Thailand and Nepal, as well as the largest Buddha statue in Indonesia.

The front yard of the temple always looks clean and tidy, often used as photo spot by tourists. 4. Majapahit Village

In Mojokerto, precisely in the village of Bejijong, Jatipasar, and Sentonorejo, there lies the Majapahit village. This area has attracted much attention because of its historical and cultural value. 6. Kedaton Temple and Sumur Upas

Situated in the village of Santorejo, Trowulan, the complex is not far from the ruins of Majapahit Hall. From the Great Hall, you can take the route to the south about 500 meters, or about 1.5 km to the west of Balai Penyelamatan Arca Mojokerto.

Kedaton temple still has a well-maintained structure, as evidenced by the intact building. Compared with the ruins around it, it is obvious that Kedaton temple is still maintained by the local community.

Sumur Upas located in the center of the complex was once believed to be the training site of the Knights of the kingdom. Not only that, the sacredness of the site is visible on the toxins contained in the well's water that can damage the nervous system. During the Kingdom of Majapahit era, the well's water is often used to soak the heirloom.

Besides the historical significance, visitors will feel the mystical aura of Sumur Upas. According to the caretaker, the well is also a tunnel that connects the kingdom of Majapahit with the South Sea (Kidul). 7. Kesiman Temple

Located in Kesiman village, this temple has a legend of holy water or Amerta who is trusted by the locals to give eternal life. The temple was built at the end of Majapahit Kingdom era, and often used as a place of meditation or perform a special ritual to repel disaster.

Kesiman temple is situated in Mount Pacet area, making the air and the scenery here beautiful and cool. To go there, you must follow the road of the village, about 500 meters from Jalan Raya Pacet-Gondang.

Around the temple standing right on the hillside, there are colorful flowers that add to the beauty of the landscape. If the weather is sunny, visitors will be spoiled by stunning views of Mount Sidiran, Mount Wlirang, and Mount Welirang.

8. Jolotundo Temple

People do not come here merely to see the historical site, but also to experience the water supposedly used to bathe the kings and queens of ancient times. The temple and bathing sites are surrounded by shady trees to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone visiting.

The location of Jolotundo temple is on the slopes of Mount Penanggungan, Seloliman village, Trawas. From Pungging district, you must pass through Kesamen village to get there.

According to the story, the temple was built by King Udayana from Bali who marries Princess Priya Guna Dharma in order to welcome the birth Prabu Airlangga, the child, in the year of 997 AD. In the temple complex, there is also a bathing pool used by the king and queen.

Interesting thing is, the water in the bathing area is still flowing despite the dry season. The 52 showers with clear water supposedly said to have the best quality in East Java.

Some pavilions and gazebo are built around the complex for visitors to enjoy the mountain scenery. You’ll only need to pay for Rp6.000 per person to visit the tourism spot.

9. Bajang Ratu Temple

Unlike most temples, the Bajang Ratu temple in Mojokerto simply resembles a gate. Located in the village of Temon, Trowulan, this temple is built between 13th and 14th century. From Mojokerto-Jombang route, you can take the eastward path about 200 meters up to Dukuh Ngliguk. From there, just follow the road as far as 3km.

Initially, Bajang Ratu temple is built to honor Prabu Jayanegara of Majapahit. The Sri Tanjung relief in the foot arch is explaining the origin of the establishment of the temple. There is also a story illustrating that the temple is a gateway to the Majapahit palace located not far from there. The roofed gate building is mostly made of red bricks, while the floors are made of andesite ladder.

To visit the historic site, visitors only have to pay a parking ticket for Rp2.000.

10. Brahu Temple

Compared to other temples in Mojokerto, Brahu temple is the oldest, so to speak. In fact, the Alasantan copper inscriptions found in the west of the temple explained that the site is older than the kingdom of Majapahit itself.

Located in the village of Bejijong, Trowulan, visitors must pass through the farmlands from Mojokerto-Jombang route as far as 2km. In order not to get lost, it is better to ask direction from the people you meet on the street.

In this location, visitors can find traces of two great kingdoms in Java, the Majapahit and Kahuripan. Brahu temple is said to be built during Kahuripan Kingdom by the order of Empu Sendok. The 27-meter temple has Hinduism and Buddhism shades. Its origin of the name comes from a sacred building called Wanaru or Warahu.

Visitors who come usually will find offerings laid at the door of the temple by the local people. When you’re feeling tired, visitors can relax under the shady trees that surrounded the temple.

11. Tikus Temple

As the heritage of Majapahit Kingdom, Tikus temple is the next favorite tourism destination in Mojokerto. Before functioned as a tourist site, the place was once a location of the kings’ bathing place. Local communities also argue that this temple is a place of worship for the Hindus. In the temple complex, you'll find ruins of the building, resembling the Mahameru peak that’s surrounded by a pond.

It is called Tikus temple because there are large numbers of mice found during the excavation process. Located in Temon village, you must pass through Trowulan intersection, following the road for approximately 3km to reach the temple. Prior to arrival, visitors will pass through several tourism sites including Bajang Ratu temple, Trowulan museum, and Segaran pond.

The main attraction of Tikus temple is not only the building, but also parks that surround the complex. Many visitors take advantage of the green scenery to have a picnic or take pictures. The grasses are neatly arranged, and there are also food vendors near the temple for a perfectly enjoyable vacation.

12. Jedong Temple

Its name is not as famous as Tikus or Trowulan temple, but Jedong temple is one of the most attractive tourist destinations to visit in Mojokerto. Sadly, not many tourists come to visit the site.

If you wish to witness the precious historical relic, go to Wotanmas Jedong village, Ngoro district, about 30km east of the city central. Despite its remote location, the place is situated on the slopes of Mount Gajah Mungkur. There, you can feel the cool air and greeny atmosphere around Jedong temple.

The apparent temple buildings are two old gates located separately. Based on the inscriptions found on the site, the temple is thought to have stood for thousands of years, i.e. since the time of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom.

Local people often call the two gates in Jedong temple complex as Lanang temple and Wadon temple. Lanang temple is for the bigger gate, and Wadon is for the smaller one. Both are built using andesite and connected by a fence made of brick.

In addition to visiting the historical site in East Java, you can also enjoy the beautiful atmosphere around Jedong temple. To access this attraction, visitors can come for free.

13. Bangkal Temple

Near Jedong temple, you will find another attraction of heritage, called the Bangkal temple. Still located in Ngoro district, visitors should go east to Jalan Raya Ngoro as far as 2km. Upon arrival, you will meet a T-junction. From there, the temple can be accessed in about 1km.

Precisely situated in Candiharjo village, Bangkal temple still stands proudly in the area of rice fields and surrounded by a pretty garden. According to the local community, this temple is built between the 13th and 14 century and is a legacy of Majapahit Kingdom.

Just like any other temple, there are carvings on the walls of the building that tell the story of ancient times. Local people often use this site as a place to perform certain rituals. Not only that, the local community is also still firmly holds the traditions of the ancestors by conducting Sedekah Bumi ritual near the temple. Not far from the temple, you will find a pavilion, a place to rest.

14. Wringin Lawang Temple

This particular historical site is named according to its location, which is in Wringin Lawang, Jatipasar village, Trowulan district, Mojokerto. The local community also knows the place by the name of Jatipasar gate. Being called so because of the shape of the building resembles a large gate.

Visitors can easily find the location of Wringin Lawang temple; it is situated on the route of Mojokerto- Jombang, around 200 meters from the entrance KM 11 Jalan Raya Mojokerto.

Unlike the temple in general, there is no historical relics carved in stone walls. According to some opinions, this temple is a gateway to the palace of Majapahit. However, there is also the notion that Wringin Lawang temple is the gate to the residence of Gajah Mada. The opinion is strengthened by the presence of large Ganesha statue at the entrance to the temple.

Tourists who want to visit don’t have to pay for the entrance ticket, instead of the parking fee for Rp3.000. There, you can enjoy a beautiful atmosphere with a variety of ornamental plants, trenggulun and maja trees around the site.

15. The Grave of Troloyo Mojokerto

Satisfied with the historical tour, you can go to the tourism site that offers an authentic cultural and religious story of Mojokerto, the grave of Troloyo. The ancient Muslim cemetery is located in Sidodadi, Santorejo village, Trowulan district, about 12km from the city center. Visitors can come here by bus, public transport or private vehicles. From Jalan Raya Trowulan, go straight and follow the road to get there.

According to the stories of local communities, Troloyo cemetery is the resting place of Sunan Ampel’s grandfather named Shaykh Sayyid Muhammad Jumadil Qubro. He was someone who played an important role in spreading Islam in the reign of Majapahit Kingdom. In addition to the tomb of Shaykh Sayyid Muhammad Jumail Qubro, there is the tomb of Syekh Abdul Qodir Jilani Sini, Syekh Maulana Skah, and Syekh Maulana Ibrahim.

Besides visited by pilgrims, the grave of Troloyo often becomes a home to a variety of cultural events organized by the local community, especially during the month of Suro, Muharram, and Jumat Legi night. To visit this place, you have to pay an entrance fee for Rp5.000.

16. Trowulan Museum

For history enthusiasts, Trowulan Museum will make a perfect tourist destination. Located in Unggahan, Trowulan village, visitors can easily find the location of the museum on the route of Surabaya-Mojokerto, precisely on Jalan Raya Trowulan.

In particular, Trowulan museum stores various objects of historical heritage from Majapahit Kingdom era; ranging from the prehistoric era, Hindu-Buddhist, Islamic, until the colonial era. With a total collection of 80.000, you will be amazed by the complete relics of the Majapahit Kingdom such as artefacts, traditional weapons, inscriptions, statues, and so forth.

Trowulan museum also collects reliefs, telling stories about the arrival of traders from China to Majapahit. Small-sized historical collections like gold coins, jars, household appliances, and ceramics are stored inside the museum. To see the large-sized sculptures and statues, visitors can go to joglo outside the building.

17. Sanggar Gubug Wayang Museum

As the name suggests, this museum is the home of thousands of wayang (puppet) collection. Not just a puppet of the country, Sanggar Gubug Wayang museum also displays some world figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Lady Diana.

Various types of wayang can be seen in the room, including wayang golek, wayang kulit, and wayang potehi. In addition, visitors can also see some Javanese heritages and collections of antique objects like the dagger, gamelan, reog ponorogo mask, kuda lumping, and much more.

Sanggar Gubug Wayang Museum is located in the city center, precisely on Jl. Kartini No. 23. In addition to learning about the cultural heritage of Indonesia, visitors can also take pictures on the museum site, designed attractively with a sitting area and mural paintings on the wall.

18. Coban Canggu Waterfall

Located in Padusan area, Pacet district, Mojokerto, Coban Canggu waterfall attracts many tourists every day. From Surabaya, you have to pass the road to Pacet as far as 60km. If departing from Mojokerto, the tourist area is only about 30km through the route of Pacet-Mojokerto.

Despite the easy access, you cannot go directly to the waterfall area. After parking the vehicle, visitors must walk up the stairs as far as 0.5km or about half an hour journey.

Coban Canggu has enchanting natural scenery with a height of about 70-80 meters. The rocky cliffs are surrounded by shady trees and cool weather of the slopes of Mount Welirang. 19. Dlundung Waterfall

21. Coban Kembar Watu Ondo Waterfall

Besides Coban Canggu, there is another waterfall to visit in Mojokerto, namely Coban Kembar Watu Ondo. This natural attraction is located on the border of Batu and Mojokerto. Precisely in the village of Pacet, tourists who want to come can take the route of Pacet-Batu. At Jalan Raya Pacet, you must follow the course to Tahura Raden Soerjo until finding the signpost of the location.

Local people call this waterfall as Coban Kembar Watu Ondo not without reason. Coban means waterfall, while the word Kembar (twin) indicates two waterfalls that are facing each other with different heights. Watu in Javanese means stone, while Ondo means stairs. It shows the path to the waterfall is in the form of stairs made of stone.

The lower waterfall has a height of about 15 meters on the right side, while on the left side; there is a waterfall with a height of 70 meters. Both waterfalls are sourced from different springs, but it boils down in the same pool. You can spend the time to bathe or play water in the cold water pool.

To get into the waterfall area, visitors must pay an entrance fee of Rp2.500 per person.

22. Watu Lumpang Waterfall

Not far from Coban Kembar Watu Ondo, another amusing waterfall lies before your eyes, called Watu Lumpang waterfall. You’ll not have any regret visiting this waterfall to see its beauty.

Watu Lumpang waterfall is located in Taman Hutan Rakyat (Tahura), Pacet village, Pacet. Access to the location is easy, which is along the route of Batu-Mojokerto. Once arrived at Cangar bridge, simply follow the signpost that will lead to the waterfall area. It is located about 500 meters from Coban Kembar Watu Ondo.

This waterfall has a height of about 10-15 meters with a light water flow. Visitors can play water or take a selfie with the beautiful waterfall as a background. Recently opened three years ago, this site attracts many visitors because of its gorgeous scenery and affordable ticket price. Visitors have to pay a parking fee for Rp5.000 only.

23. Surodadu Waterfall

Similar to Coban Kembar, Surodadu waterfall also have twin flows. Located in Claket village, Pacet district, visitors can enjoy the panoramic beauty of the waterfall in the middle of a bamboo forest.

Tourists can take the route of Pacet-Clakat heading to Trawas. Once arrives at a T-junction, turn right towards Mligi village until you find the signpost of the location. At the parking area, the journey is continued by foot, walking for about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall.

30. Gembyang Cave
